Birdsville
 Birdsville a tiny town, often referred to as Australiaís most isolated is at the northern end of the Birdsville Track, a major cattle route developed in the 1880ís. In the 1870ís the first European settlers arrived in the area. By 1900 it was a flourishing town boasting three hotels, several stores, a customs office and a cordial factory. Cattle remains a major trade, as well as the tourism accompanying four wheel drive enthusiasts keen to take on the Birdsville Track and the Simpson Desert National Park. Birdsville sits beside the Diamantina River about 1600 kilometres west of Brisbane. The town surrounded by arid desert, with the sandy Simpson Desert to the west and Sturtís Stony Desert to the south east.
