Tasmanian Wilderness
Experience the stunningly beautiful and unique National Parks of the Tasmanian Wilderness, and enjoy breathtaking landscapes, wildlife and fauna. The Tasmanian Wilderness is a term used for the World Heritage Area in South West, Western and Central Tasmania, Australia, and covers almost 20 percent of Tasmania. For those travellers who are partial to a challenge, follow the famous Overland Track, an 80klm trail south to St Claire, Australia’s deepest natural lake. Wonder at the amazing sight of Tasmania’s highest mountain, Mt Ossa, with species of Beech trees that are more than 60 million years old. Take in the breathtaking beauty of Russel Falls, with towering swamp gums and ski fields in Mount Field National Park. Cruise down the Gordon River and whitewater raft down the Franklin at the Franklin Gordon Wild Rivers National Park. Swim, boat, fish, kayak and scuba dive from the beautiful white sand beach of Coles Bay at the entrance to Freycinet National Park. Or try your hand at abseiling, climbing and mountain walking through the granite rocks of the Hazard Ranges. The Tasmanian Wilderness is best visited between December and March when the weather is milder.
